The theme for NDP 2006 is “Our Global City, Our Home”. This theme portrays Singapore as a vibrant cosmopolitan city and an international hub that is plugged into the global community. At the same time, Singapore today is a city, which offers numerous opportunities and many different paths to success. This is where Singaporeans live, work and play and this is the place we are proud to call home. These sentiments are in line with PM Lee’s National Day Rally 2005 speech, where he encouraged us to remake Singapore into a vibrant global city called home.
This year's logo embraces our theme "Our Global City, Our Home". It depicts a globe with the little red island of Singapore as its focal point. Despite our small size, our island is widely recognized for its thriving economy, its connectivity to the world and its emerging role on the international stage.
The use of multi-coloured brushstrokes demonstrates our vibrancy as a nation. The merging of the different colours into one icon connotes our unity and harmony as a multi-racial and multi-religious society. The treatment of the brushstrokes gives the logo an Asian feel. It denotes that while Singapore is evolving into a global city, we do not forget our roots and Asian values.
The futuristic black font shows our boldness and that we are forward looking in shaping our future as a nation.
The choice of the pronoun “Our” in the theme is deliberate as it connotes a sense of inclusiveness and ownership. Reiterating these sentiments, the phrase ‘Our Home’ evokes the warmth and unconditional acceptance that comes from a true sense of belonging. As the word goes, “we should own it, in order to take the best care of it. This phrase reflects truly about many great contributions that Singaporeans have brought to their homeland. For instance, in the business sector, Singapore has begun to contribute largely to the world’s investment. Singapore has also shown her success as her people live in multi-religion and multi-cultural society that tolerates different belief and practices.
Therefore, in making our homeland a better place for everyone, each of Singaporeans has their part in the community. It can be started in creating harmonious relationship with your neighbours or even be courteous to everyone. Our little action may be trivial matter. However, our little deeds could make Singapore special in the world's view.

Zidane had put his personal feeling into everybody’s matter which results in the defeat of France. It is human’s nature to be angered and agitated sometimes. But we should be able to control them knowing our circumstances. It’s a pity that Zidane’s head butt, being understood as the main cause as the losing. Zidane had brought down the team confident that’s crucial for the team to have a steady play. Moreover, his notorious act is likely to be remembered for centuries in the soccer world.
I believe that there are a lot of things that we can learn from the wrong choice that Zidane made during the match.
Self- control has become important part in our society especially when we face a controversial issue. We got to outlook the root of the matter and negotiate with the party before taking the next move. Even though saying is easier than doing, we can also avoid the contradiction by tolerating each other differences of mind or even practices in our daily life.
Life is all about choices. This practically absorbed in my mind. And I assume that, this statement was crossed in Zidane’s mind once. However, Zidane has made a decision that affected those around him.
We can be just like Zidane who had brought doomed to his team, if we do not think before act but of course we can be a better person who brings glory to our people around us if we take consideration in our actions. It’s all about choice.

Topic: Bullying
I saw minor bruises on her leg and some on the arms. It’s been a month since Clara underwent the enmity of her own classmates. The view of her being bullied has become a usual phenomena yet nobody dare to stand for her. I felt sorry for her but I could not do anything to make her situation better. I believe that many felt sorry just like the way I am but we just could do nothing. We were threatened to be mistreated if we do something to protect her.
Clara was a new student in my school. She used to study in a favourite school in America. However, the economy recession in her family force her to return to her homeland for further study. Many weeks have passed, yet Clara was cold towards others and perhaps that’s the reason why she was being excluded by many girls. She is also an ace in both academic and sports but these do not change the fact that she is a public enemy is our class.
Not only mistreatment that Clara got such as her uniform being thrown to the dustbin but Clara also received verbal attack and false gossip upon herself. As a result, Clara looked more fragile than ever. She insisted not to inform the teacher about the assault that has occurred on her. She also tried to keep the matter from her parents.
Clara was hurt emotionally and the wound getting deeper. I could feel the way she was when I understand that Clara has no one but herself to share her misery. Her father has no job and her mother worked overtime. The parents hardly spare their time for their child.
The only thing to help her is to stand for her by informing the principal of what has happened all this time.
In the end, those students who had mistreated Clara all these month were punished severely. Some of them were suspended but the other was expelled from the school. I come to understanding that one should uphold justice and stomached differences among our friends especially in Singapore when there are multicultural societies. Las but not least we should remember that different does not mean enemy.
